We offer free services for youth ages 10-19 at the following schools: Lake Worth Community High, Lake Worth Middle, Lantana Middle, and Maritime Academy. In addition, we provide free transportation from school to the program site. Parents can pickup in the evening or youth can walk home for those who live nearby.
Parents or guardians are responsible for transporting their youth to YEC, which opens year-round and operates Monday-Friday from 3-7 pm during regular school days and from 8 am – 5 pm during school holidays and summer months.
The YEC offers daily homework assistance, small group tutoring in reading, math, and teen council/leadership development. There’s also organized instructional programs for physical activities such as dance, yoga, and martial arts as well as academic and arts programs like science, crafts, and theater. In addition, the center offers opportunities for unstructured activities including game playing, socializing, club meetings, and outdoor play.
TLC operates at Lake Worth Community High and Boynton Beach High School and offers free ACT, FSA, and SAT Prep. It’s open Monday to Thursday from 3:00-5:00 pm. Registration is required, and a snack is served daily. In addition, TLC works with our school guidance counselor to assist our youth with college readiness, college application, FASFA, scholarship, and referral to other services as needed.
These programs are free and supported by grants from Palm Beach County Youth Services Department, United Way of Palm Beach County, Prime Time Palm Beach County, and in-kind support from the City of Lake Worth, Lake Worth Community High School, Kiwanis Club of Lake Worth, and many others.
While unstructured activities are an essential part of our Teen Zone, the center is staffed with employees who make safety their paramount concern.
The Teen Zone offers our teens other opportunities as well, including youth leadership, career exploration, “teen-preunership,” summer employment, and jobs shadowing.
While the teens are at both facilities, there are many discussions and activities focused on maximizing learning from the service experiences and on helping teens cope with important developmental tasks – including understanding self and personal values, life skills, dealing with family stress, nutrition, human growth and development, and issues related to social and emotional transitions from adolescence to adulthood.
